ASUS Announce RT-N16 Wireless Router
2nd July 2009.
Speed, simplicity, security. Well, that's what the press release says, anyway. What you actually get is a Gigabit wireless n (single band) router with a maximum data speed of 300Mbps, four gigabit ethernet ports, two usb ports for attaching storage or printers directly to the router, and rather curiously 128Mb of DDR video memory. According to Asus this combined with CPU gives the router effortless file transfers, flawless video streaming, low-ping gaming and minimal jitter on VOIP calls.
Of interest to Bit Torrentors will be the Download Master, providing up to 300,000 sessions for P2P, and the ability of the router to continue downloading (to attached storage) if the PC is off.
Simplicity is delivered through the Asus EZ interface, which we'll have to take their word for as we haven't seen it yet.
Security is just Wifi Protected Setup (WPS), so nothing new there then.
This isn't the most glamourous router, but looks like a competent entry into the market and if the EZ interface is as good as Asus think and the price is right, then this could be a big seller.
