Virgin blasts speed barrier

15th July 2009.

It's not specifically router news, but it's good news for those in the UK on cable connections. Today virgin announced that all homes with its cable connection have the capability to get 50Mbit download connections. By contrast, most people on ADSL connections will be getting somewhere between 2 and 4Mbit connection speeds. To celebrate the completion of this upgrade Virgin is lowering the price of this tariff from £50 to £38 per month.

Blisteringly fast download speeds sorted, the Virgin team are trialling much faster upload speeds (up to 10Mbit), great news for gamers out there or those video-calling Australia.

For those interested, the Virgin team are issuing the Netgear WNR2000 broadband router with their 50Mb broadband package.
