Wireless n end in sight

22nd July 2009.

It seems to have taken a path more twisted than crossing the Alps on a space hopper, but finally it looks like the end may be in sight. The IEEE task group members look like they're going to finalise the (wireless n) 802.11n standard in September.

The wireless n draft 2 (standard) was published in March 2007, and there has been much tweaking of the standard since then. Wireless n draft 11, yes eleven, was published on 23rd June. This last standard looks like it is the final, final draft and it has been submitted for formal ratification by the IEEE. All being well that ratification takes place in September, and wireless n is at long last signed off.
